You Can Help the Olympia Free Clinic Care for All…Through Breakfast

We can get bogged down by the idea that caring requires big, grand gestures, but caring for others can be as easy as pouring a cup of coffee and listening to stories of hope and opportunities at the Olympia Free Clinic’s Care For All Breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Olympia Community Center (222 Columbia St. NW). Tickets to the Care for All Breakfast are available online and a savory and sweet autumnal meal catered by Marv’s Marvlus Pit BBQ is not to be missed.  The event will feature an inspiring slate of guest speakers, prizes and more. Even better, the funds raised at the event will directly support their continued, caring outreach in our community.

The Olympia Free Clinic has a simple mission: providing high quality medical, mental health and specialty care services to uninsured and underinsured adults (18+) at no cost to the patient. Treat yourself to a delicious meal amongst friends – old and new – and benefit folks who need a helping hand.

Olympia Federal Savings is co-sponsoring the upcoming event and Shea Wahlstrom from the bank’s marketing department says that the partnership goes together as perfectly as coffee and donuts.

“When it comes to OlyFed, the core of our mission is to be financial partners that build relationships and use our resources to help our communities succeed,” says Wahlstrom. “We recognize the many challenges our community members face in accessing care, so we’re proud to sponsor The Olympia Free Clinic’s Care for All Breakfast and their mission of providing accessible health care for all. We have been so impressed with how efficient and effective they are with the resources they have. Our community is fortunate to have a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who are committed to providing health care services to those who might otherwise go without.”

The Olympia Free Clinic’s Fundraiser Breakfast is a Communitywide Win/Win

Morgan Jade is the executive director of the Olympia Free Clinic and explains that their volunteer-based nonprofit “provides accessible, high-quality health services in a caring, respectful environment, and works to connect our patients to other community resources in pursuit of improved overall health. We center equity in our work by bridging gaps in care to meet patients’ unique medical needs.”

They operate a medical clinic three times each week at 520 Lilly Road NE, Building 3. There are weekly one on one mental health sessions led by six volunteer therapists. Staff also provide psychiatric medication management and specialty clinics like reproductive health, gender affirming health care, physical therapy, dermatology and chiropractic care. In 2023, the Clinic facilitated 1,400 clinical appointments, serving 418 unique patients.

Jade welcomes everyone in the community to attend the breakfast to learn more and support their growing outreach efforts.

Building A Stronger, Healthier Olympia from Within

Jade says that both patients and community members are often amazed by the extent of services offered through the Clinic. “Our motto is ‘the community, looking after the community’s health,’” she says, “and it couldn’t be truer. Together we are able to make our care possible because of the many ways our community shows up for our mission. Our volunteers, donors and community partners are invaluable.”

A recent move to Lilly Road opened up new options for care. Their mental health counseling began in October 2023, and is one of many new programs. Spring 2024 saw the addition of vaccine and dermatology clinics and chiropractic options started in June 2024. “We also started a quarterly Pap clinic in April, in collaboration with family nurse practitioner students at Pacific Lutheran University,” says Jade. “We strive to be responsive to our patients’ needs and anticipate starting new programs in the future.”

The best place to follow Olympia Free Clinic events and updates, says Jade, is through their Facebook and Instagram pages. Look for the return of in-person events like last summer’s softball tournament and happy hour gatherings at The Brotherhood Lounge. “We look forward to continuing these events in the years to come and welcome sponsorship and collaboration ideas,” says Jade.

Community Partnerships Build Secure Foundations Across Western Washington

Jade and the Free Clinic’s team welcome additional sponsorships for the breakfast fundraiser and future events. Simply reach out to director@theolympiafreeclinic.org and their team will share the many options for you to get involved and make a life-changing difference.

For individuals, consider giving back your time and talents. Jade says that “volunteers provide all of our health care at the clinic, and they are truly the heart of what we do.” They currently have approximately 90 volunteer staff including doctors, nurses and pharmacists as well as non-medical professionals.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to help those around you and support the critical mission of the Olympia Free Clinic…all over a warm cup of coffee.
