The Penny Is Phasing Out. Here’s What It Means for OlyFed Customers

The US Department of the Treasury has announced plans to phase out the penny from circulation. This change is expected to take place over time and is designed to reduce the cost of producing coins that are no longer widely used in everyday transactions.

For OlyFed customers, the good news is that the impact will be minimal.

We will continue to accept pennies for deposit at all OlyFed branches, and day-to-day banking will operate as usual. Customers may still deposit pennies into their accounts, and we will continue to fulfill penny orders for business customers as long as supplies allow.

As the Treasury’s plan moves forward, pennies will remain in circulation until supplies are depleted. We are actively monitoring and managing our coin supply. Branch and customer coin orders will be adjusted as needed to reflect changing inventory levels.

Once OlyFed’s inventory of pennies runs out, we will follow federal guidance on next steps and will communicate any future changes clearly and in advance.
