The Bearcat Bank Powered by OlyFed
OlyFed is honored and excited to submit a proposal to partner with Chehalis Schools to help power The Bearcat Bank at WF West High School. With a proud tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, music, the arts and a host of extracurricular activities and clubs; WF West and OlyFed share similar values and a passion for leadership, character development and making our community a better place to live.
Just as WF West places great emphasis on student achievement initiatives with impressive graduation and career readiness results; OlyFed has earned 147 straight quarters of a five-star rating from Bauer Financial, an independent rating agency. Only 1% of the nation’s banks have earned Bauer’s top rating for so long and with such consistency.
Our similarities when it comes to doing the right thing, celebrating successes and taking care of those who take care of us make this potential partnership one that we believe will have a tremendous impact at the school and beyond into the community.
How Will the Bank Operate?
Our plan is to operate in one of three potential spaces that have been identified by teaching staff and administrators at the school. This in-school branch will be open during lunches a minimum of two days a week based on what will work best for students, staff and their schedules. OlyFed will work in partnership with the school staff to ensure all the needed furnishings (desks, chairs, etc.), security equipment (cameras, safe, etc.), technology, office supplies, signage and marketing collateral are provided to successfully operate the branch.
Under the leadership of the Chehalis OlyFed banking team in partnership with Kristin Ciollli, CTE Teacher/DECA Advisor and Don Bunker, Assistant Principal/CTE Director, the branch will utilize student staff. Students working in the branch will gain real-world customer service experience along with money management skills, financial product knowledge, business operations, marketing and more. The OlyFed banking professionals will work hand-in-hand with the student employees to ensure they have the training, support and answers they need to be successful in their roles. Student employees will go through a similar training experience as the bank’s branch employees, learning about the regulations that govern operations and all the processes, procedures and banking systems that keep operations running smoothly.
Even better, students and staff will have access to financial services at the school to deposit checks, open accounts, get cash, get connected with online banking tools and resources and much more. Students will become more comfortable and knowledgeable with managing their money by having ease of access to a financial institution and by being able to connect peers with the skills, knowledge and resources to help. To ensure the security and privacy of student and staff financial information, branch employees will have restricted access to peer and faculty/administrator accounts.
How Will the Bank Benefit Students in the Classroom?
Integrated into this hands-on learning opportunity will be financial education curriculum that will be wrapped into the classroom where students will gain insight on subjects such as budgeting, investing, saving, account security, managing credit, taxes, insurance and entrepreneurism. These topics will be covered by financial professionals from OlyFed, who will be regular guest presenters. Students who complete the program will have resume-ready skills and knowledge that will help open the door to high-quality employment opportunities.
With local leadership and decision making made right here at home, we are flexible and nimble and can make program adjustments easily and quickly based on the student and faculty needs.
OlyFed's School Affinity Card Program
Part of OlyFed’s give-back strategy is it’s School Affinity Card program where it will design WF West branded debit cards and every time the card is used, two cents will be donated to the school’s ASB Fund or another fund of it’s choice. Furthermore, for the first three years of this program, OlyFed commits to choosing one month out of the year to give two cents to WF West High School for every customer’s debit card transaction. This will result in a minimum contribution of $2,500 to the school. The Affinity Card program not only provides needed financial support for student activities, it also provides a fun and creative way for students, teachers, parents, administrators, alumni and community members to show their Bearcat pride while out shopping, dining and recreating in the community. It’s a fun and creative way to come together and support education in our hometown.
